Marche: Una regione al plurale

Client: RUFA Year: 2026 Category: Branding / Editorial Design

The Marche region stands as a unique linguistic anomaly being the only Italian territory with a plural name. This project transforms geographical fragmentation into a core strategic asset, focusing on the aesthetics conscious traveler and the local resident through a premium physical artifact. Moving beyond functional but cluttered traditional guides, this atlas occupies an intermediate space as an editorial object designed to certify the cultural authority of the destination through the intrinsic value of its design.

The visual architecture rejects a monolithic logo in favor of a modular system organized into five thematic macro areas: Sea, Mountains, Villages, Art, and Traditions. The curation strategy employs synecdoche, using specific icons such as the rigid pentagonal geometry of the Mole Vanvitelliana or the botanical rarity of the mountain peony to represent the regional ecosystem. Elements like the unifying brick of rural settlements and the manual precision of local folklore are elevated to absolute icons of the territory.

Typography defines the volume’s hierarchy. The logotype uses a customized PP Mori with manually reduced kerning for visual density, while PP Fragment Glare and Text balance editorial tone with readability. The 21x26 cm format utilizes an elastic grid of 9 columns by 11 rows. This mathematical use of negative space isolates text blocks and dictates a contemplative reading pace, supported by a technical brand manual that codifies these construction rules for industry professionals.
